Did you know that between the 1st April 2023 to the 31st March 2024, 1.6 billion journeys were made on UK rail network?
The ORR (Office of Rail and Road) released its annual rail report last month, which focuses on ‘the performance of train operators and Network Rail in the consumer areas we regulate.’ This year’s report covers their actions from 2023-2024, and highlights priorities for the year ahead.
The ORR reports that some of the actions covered this year include:
Ticket retailers taking action to improve fee transparency.
Maximum ticket refund fee reduced to £5.
Better information is being sent to passengers on changes to booked trains.
43 organisations have joined the new Rail Ombudsman scheme – a free service which works to deal with unresolved customer complaints and issues within the rail industry.
The priority for this year is improved assistance for disabled people on trains and in rail stations.
The Office of Rail and Road work to protect the interests of rail and road users; “We are improving the safety, value, and performance of railways and roads, today and in the future.” They work with railway companies to ensure the UK rail network is a safe place to be.
For us at KITE Projects, a safer network means that we create solutions that keep your network safe, by developing access and connection solutions that enable them to work effectively every day. These products include; KITE Ramp, KITE Step, KITE Handrail and KITE Platform, and each system contributes towards keeping your networks safe and moving.
Collaboration between many companies in the rail network is essential for maintaining the safety of the railway. If we all work together, we can ensure that the future of rail will be safer. This efficiency means that rail and infrastructure users are able to meet their timetables, and that disruptions are minimised, allowing you to reach your destination on time.
