The shuttle KITE Projects newsletter edition 3 keeping network informed

Welcome to the 7th Edition of the KITE Shuttle!

This edition takes you through key themes like network resilience, collaborative engineering, and sustainability. From our work with Network Rail and Heathrow to insights on sustainable engineering, we showcase how KITE is driving innovation and protecting vital infrastructure. Enjoy the highlights!

Network Rail Training day

KITE Projects were pleased to host the Network Rail Western Track team for a training day this month, at our premises. During the afternoon, our Business Development Lead, James Lees took the opportunity to sit down with Hannah Wakefield - Project Manager, James Grant – Project Engineer and Marc Southby – Works Delivery Manager, to discuss the benefit that this collaboration has brought to both teams. Click here to view the video from the day!

Heathrow Terminal 5

People walk through a modern urban plaza lined with trees. Glass buildings surround the area. A person in a blue coat is prominent.

Heathrow needed a solution to the potential trip hazards that were present in the terminal’s plaza. Our team collaborated with Tier 1 and Installation contractors to engineer and provide a solution to Heathrow’s situation. The outcome? 530 covers were replaced in Terminal 5 Plaza, all designed and supplied by KITE. With each cover that was replaced, trip hazards were removed, and the safety of all passengers and workers at Heathrow increased.

Collaborative engineering design process

KITE Projects specialise in bespoke handrail and access requirements across the infrastructure industry. But did you know that we also offer design services as part of our comprehensive project package? At KITE, we don’t just sell a product. We provide a journey for our clients—collaborating at every step of the way. The KITE Process encompasses design, engineering, manufacturing, and direct supply to your site.

Debris Screens

Debris screens are an unsung hero of our waterways💦

Waterways are the lifeblood of our ecosystems and communities. Ensuring they remain free-flowing and healthy is vital. This is where debris screens come into play. Debris screens prevent litter, leaves, and other debris from clogging drainage systems and assets, reducing flood risks and promoting better water quality.

🌊Flood Prevention: Keeps drains clear, minimizing overflow.

🌍Environmental Protection: Reduces pollution, safeguarding wildlife habitats.

🌉Asset Longevity: Extends the lifespan of water infrastructure by preventing blockages.

KITE Projects Ltd were pleased to collaborate with AQUA FABRICATIONS LIMITED and Colas Rail on the Gobowen Siphon project, where we designed and supplied a debris screen as part of a solution to minimise flood risks and keep the rail network moving.

What does sustainable engineering really mean?

Railway crosses a residential area with new yellow and silver pedestrian steps. Overcast sky, autumn trees, and brick houses surround.

Sustainability in construction is often thought of in terms of embodied carbon and carbon emissions. While these are obviously critical for sustainability, our belief at KITE Projects is that we need to go further in considering the many other factors, such as construction efficiency and planning, site logistics requirements, and products and systems engineered for the longer-term
